MOCA China to open Hong Kong's first
Museum of Contemporary Art in Autumn 2008

MOCA China will open Hong Kong's first and only museum devoted exclusively to contemporary art in Autumn of 2008 in Causeway Bay, one of the busiest shopping, entertainment, business districts of Hong Kong, after renovations over the Summer. The highly accessible 7,500 sq ft space is located on the 2nd floor of DNM, a newly opened hip designer shopping mall. After 18-months of planning, MOCA China will finally occupy its first dedicated space for art exhibitions, educational programs and arts inspired social events. Focusing on international and regional contemporary art from over the past thirty years, the establishment of the new museum may well set a record for fast-track museum development-from initial conception to completion.

Working with the renowned museum directors and independent curators in MOCA China's Academic and Artistic Advisory Committee, we will put together an active exhibition calendar of international and regional art with high intellectual and aesthetic values to rival that of leading contemporary art museums around the world. By keeping hours suitable to the very busy lives that Hong Kong people lead, MOCA China hopes to help spark a passionate commitment to the importance of art to everyday life in Hong Kong. Innovative late-night and weekend activities are being planned, so as Executive Director Dr. Jeffrey du Vallier d'Aragon Aranita hopes, that MOCA China will in time earn a reputation as being the destination for new art and bold ideas in the region, as it demonstrates a commitment to presenting, without prejudice, brave new ways of seeing the world and the art of our time.
